Bone Conditions Overview
Although there are many bony structures throughout the foot which together contribute to the dynamic support necessary for weight bearing and ambulation, the primary bony structure of focus for posterior heel pain is the calcaneus.
The calcaneus is the largest bone in the foot which serves as an attachment or insertion point for a number of intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the foot. Furthermore, the calcaneus serves a major weight bearing surface during ambulation and must tolerate the significant forces transferred through it.
