Systemic Overview
As with any medical condition, developing a diagnosis takes careful examination and consideration of the specific structures involved. Having a well rounded understanding of the anatomy and physiology becomes important and plays a vial role in the process of differential diagnosis. When dealing with heel pain, systemic conditions rarely present with isolated signs and symptoms. By taking a thorough medical history and by screening the various other locations throughout the body, the clinician can more accurately rule in or rule out systemic causes of heel pain.
